From Overwhelm to Empowerment – Finding Strength with Weave Hawke’s Bay

.

When Sarah*, a mum of two from Hawke’s Bay, was referred to Weave Hawke’s Bay by her doctor after the birth of her second child, she was facing a tough chapter. The emotional toll of new motherhood was overwhelming, but through our Post Natal Adjustment Programme, Sarah found a space where she felt seen, supported, and safe.

That first experience opened the door to deeper healing. With additional counselling, Sarah began to rebuild her confidence and mental wellbeing, finding practical strategies and compassionate guidance that helped her grow stronger every day.

Over time, Weave continued to be a steady presence for Sarah and her whānau. From community law support to budgeting help and other wraparound services, we were there when it mattered most.

When her son started facing challenges with emotional regulation and friendships, Sarah turned to our Just for Kids programme. The transformation was clear, his confidence grew, his social skills blossomed, and for the first time in a long while, he felt proud of himself. “One of the most awesome things I’ve done,” he told her.

Now, years on, Sarah looks back with gratitude. “Weave Hawke’s Bay is a one-stop shop for support,” she says. “They helped me move forward without medication, change how I parent, and create the kind of home I wanted for my children.”

At Weave, we know that every family’s journey is unique. Your support allows us to stand beside parents like Sarah, and tamariki like her son, through many stages of life. We are reminded every day of the difference our community makes. If you’d like to support whānau in your region, please consider donating.
