Meet Counsellor Missy Bedford-Rolleston
.
Weave Hawke’s Bay are pleased to welcome our newest Counsellor, Missy Bedford-Rolleston. Missy joins our experienced team of Counsellors that help empower people to weave their own paths toward wellbeing.
Born and bred in Napier, with strong ties to Tauranga Moana, Missy is a very proud Mum of three beautiful girls. Whānau and community are important in her life and are values that guide the way she shows up both personally and professionally. Outside of work you’ll often find her spending time with her family, camping, fishing, and just enjoying being with them. She also love’s gardening and getting stuck into DIY projects around her home.
Missy holds a Bachelor of Applied Social Services (Counselling) and Graduate Diploma of Psychology as well as being a registered member of the New Zealand Association of Counsellors. She previously worked within the Mental Health Sector supporting our most vulnerable community members. Her role involved walking alongside whaiora to help them to live well within the community. During this time, she worked with a diverse range of clients including the LGBTQ community, those experiencing AOD, trauma, eating disorders, anxiety and depression.
“There are many roads that lead to the same destination. What fits for one person may not suit another. I strongly believe we must first foster, connection, safety, and trust, to be able to support and facilitate meaningful recovery and growth for our people. Our people guide the way; our role is to support and help facilitate growth and self-agency.”
Compassion and empathy sit at the heart of all of Missy’s work. She believes the therapeutic relationship is the foundation of meaningful change and considers it an honour and a privilege to support people in vulnerable spaces. Missy is passionate about helping individuals move toward growth and positive change, working alongside them to build on their strengths and find pathways forward that feel right for them.
“I strongly believe in supporting our people to realign with their own strengths and self-worth. Working towards wellness is a journey, one we do not need to travel alone.”
